What witnesses can do

Your witnesses never see your message. They only receive a request asking whether you may have passed away. Their role is to slow the process down, not speed it up.

The rule that never changes

At every stage before delivery, one tap from you stops the process. That is true during regular check-ins, during the extra direct attempts, and during the final 72-hour warning window.

If you respondEverything resets, the alarm is cleared, and the next scheduled check-in is set as normal.
If no one can confirmLastly resets the clock and starts the cycle over one more time — it checks in with the user again, escalates to witnesses again, and if witnesses are still unsure or their responses conflict, the messages are kept safe and encrypted indefinitely unless a witness, an emergency contact, or our support team provides verified confirmation.
Only one irreversible moment existsOnce the 72-hour window ends without a response and delivery begins, the process is complete and can no longer be undone.

Silence alone will never deliver your messages.

I built Lastly after losing many friends, some who left behind children. They died suddenly, with things unsaid. No warning. No goodbye. Just — gone. And in the quiet that followed, one thought kept finding me — I couldn't bear the thought of leaving this world without my daughter knowing exactly how much I love her.


So often we save the important words for important moments — and let ordinary Tuesdays pass without saying anything at all. But ordinary Tuesdays are all we really have. The people we love deserve to hear it on those days too.
